Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

RCIA

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) models the practice of the early Church in which unbaptized individuals, after a lengthy period of spiritual preparation, were received into the Church through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

The RCIA is a process for adults inquiring and seeking initiation into the Catholic Church.  After hearing God's word, these adults come forward to accept and understand the mission of Christ and the truths of the Catholic Church.  Weekly gatherings consist of prayer, catechesis (teaching), reflection, and sharing as we come to discover where God is calling each individual.  The process is open to all those not baptized, those baptized, those baptized in another Christian faith, and those baptized Catholic but who have never completed their initiation.

The RCIA is not only a journey of faith for the person but for the entire community.  It is through renewal and conversion within the entire community that provides an example of Christian living for those inquiring into the faith.  Within the community, sponsors are called forth to support and accompany the candidate on their journey.  The prayerful support of the whole community is essential to the spiritual welfare of the inquirer.
